Kind of a hijack, but yes, our intakes have a distinctive "whistle", which is amplified by an AEM.

Strange (maybe even frightning ) that LE-607 did not protect your diff
Whatever you decide to do, your broken diff is yours, isn't it?
It would be "nice" to see what it looks like inside.
That may also make it possible to diagnose what happened.
Allthough "floating" metal debris does a lot of damage once it is there.

I've been reading over some of the finer details of what PJ has posted. In particular, I'm keying in on the diff fluid change interval. A 30K interval is deemed reasonable if the car fell under the "normal" maintenance schedule. Most of us drive in a way that would reflect "severe" maintenance, which would have meant a fluid change every year or 15K miles. We don't really know how the first owner drove the car or whether or not having the same fluid in there the whole time may have contributed to abnormal wear and tear. LE 607 may be a very good rear diff fluid, but I don't think it's any magic potion if the rear diff has had hard use.
I'm with you in that it would be interesting to see what the guts of the diff looks like.

Hehe. I think it's more important to change the darn stuff every year, no matter which you use.

I had a rear diff problem after I installed my Aircharger. While test driving my car, the tech said, "I love the sound of the intake." And then he proceded on telling me that the whine was from my diff.

A week later, the diff was swapped under warranty.

Wow, was that on your 06? Haven't heard of an 06 with a failure yet.
