Differential Gear Oil
Hey guys, I just got a MY07 S2K and will be doing the rear diff fluid replacement along with the M/T fluid soon. I purchased 2 qts of Honda MTF for thr trans, but I see for the rear diff there are a couple of options. I was thinking of grabbing 1 qt of Mobil 1 75w-90LS which they sell at the local parts store here, but I see some people mentioning Amsoil 75w-110 on S2K FB groups as well as other threads around this forum. My question is, my car is completely stock with 50k miles, not sure if it's ever been changed before or how long it's been which is why I want to change it asap. I'm trying to use fluids as close as possible to stock/OEM specs, at least for now. Car pretty much only gets driven on weekends, I try to baby it for the most part but it does see some spirited driving and VTEC every now and then. Will the Mobil 1 be perfectly fine to use for my car, at least for the first change? Or should I spend a bit extra and go for the Amsoil?
Thanks for your input!

Good lord. Are the 10000000 other oil threads not enough to wet your whistle?
75w90 Mobil 1 is perfectly fine for your application -- I've been using it for 6+ years and put 60k miles on it, including a 5000+ mile cross-country roadtrip. Granted I change often and I don't abuse my car.
People here will tell you to use thicker, more expensive boutique stuff, but really at the end of the day it doesn't matter. It's all fluff, personal opinion, and old farts who insist that they know best. Sure the Amsoil 75-110 or 75-140 is closer to the original spec (and then some). If you can find the Amsoil, just use that for your peace of mind.

Differential oil change is scheduled every 30,000 miles (15,000 miles "severe service").
Any good hypoid gear oil is fine. My choices for gearbox and boutique differential oil. From the right source the LE1605 is maybe a buck or two more than the pedestrian Amsoil products.

it's hard to target "as close to oem as possible" since we don't know what oem fluid is in there. but the manual specs straight 90w, so the 75w110 will get you closer to that.
good luck have fun.

edit: i remembered the story wrong so here's the corrected version.
Anecdote time: Since i purchased the car with 9K miles on the odometer I used 75w90 (Redline) weight that a lot of guys here used to recommend, then one day around 50-60K miles, my diff started to make noises on low speed turns. I immediately changed it and flushed it with Mobil again and still made noises.
I scoured the forums for anyone that had the same issue as mine trying to figure out if my diff was going out and never thought it was the weight of the oil because so many members used it with success. A local member had the same exact noise on her and her husband's diff. Her diff blew before they could figure out it was the weight of the oil likely causing the problem. Her husband took it to a shop that said it was the 75w90 causing the issue and recommended LE1605, which immediately fixed his diff. In the thread another member suggested Motul 90PA as an even better choice, so i ended up going with Motul since it was also easier to source.
I've been using Motul 90PA ever since then and my diff has been silent . I'm at 110K miles now. Needless to say, it's what i always recommend to anyone who asks me. I know it's not one of your choices, but just thought i'd throw that out there.
Here's my old thread, which is mostly in tact, if anyone is interested: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/californ...hudder-833748/
