Default Differential Oil

Hi,

I have read on this site and others, and cannot get a good feel.

I need to change the differential oil, and tomorrow's the day.

I have used Mobil 1 75w-90 for years, but I cannot find that anywhere.

I have some Swepco 210 (80w-140) for my race car, but no other potentially suitable oil.

I live near Seattle; I don't drive the S2000 when it's real cold, but I will drive it frequently when it's 45 degrees (Fahrenheit) out.

What differential, generally available at a typical NAPA-type store, is suitable for an AP2 S2000, entirely stock, used as a daily driver and autocross car? And please, if possible, explain why you think what you're recommending is appropriate.

Thanks!

Mark

ask if they have sae 90 or 110 gl5. if not, try a farm or tractor supply store. when you have time, find some le 1605 for the long haul.

SAE 90, GL5 or GL6.
75w-90 GL5
75w-110 GL5
75w-140 GL5

Should all work pretty well. Amsoil Severe Gear series is very popular hear. I've run it for multiple years now.

Just changed my 2006 S2000's transmission and differential for the 1st time last weekend (@ 11,200 miles). I have trouble finding Mobil1 75W-90 locally (Canada) but no trouble finding this in Washington State. You can purchase it here online (from Amazon):

That is the best 75W-90 synthetic gear oil I've tried and I plan to stick with it. My second choice would be the German made synthetic Castrol SAF fluid which is also available in 75W-90 but harder to find in North America. The local BMW dealer charges $162 for 1.5 litres in 75W-140.
