Default Difficulty putting car into gear

Hey mechanical gurus. I have a 2002 s2000 and have found it difficult to put the car into 1st gear when starting the car. In fact, it is difficult to engage the stick shift into any gear, including reverse. It is getting to the point that I have to jam the gear in, and sometimes even this doesn't work. It only happens on a cold start, and gets back to normal when the car is heated up (maybe 5-10 minutes). I changed my transmission fluid several months ago. Anyone have an explanation to what may be going on? Thanks for your time.

you said you changed the MTF several months ago, but how many miles does that equate to?

Also, try sliding into 4th gear and then sliding up into 1st or reverse. That should help make a smoother transition IF it's not your master cylinder.

My car did this too. Have you ever flushed the clutch fluid(not the MTF)? Mine was BLACK so i flushed it out and within minutes the car was back to normal. Easy and cheap...give it a shot

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but what is the master cylinder and how can i check this? The car has difficulty getting into ANY gear, especially reverse. It seems to be getting worse and I really have to jam it into reverse. The other gear (1-4) are difficult as well, but again reverse is the hardest. I guess I'll try changing the clutch fluid. My car has 82,000 miles on it. Once again, thanks for your responses.

One more thing, my clutch engagement feels fine. I'm wondering if changing the clutch fluid will do anything?
