Dipstick?

Most of the hits for searching the forums with the word 'dipstick' return information on this topic.
Most of them say it's crankcase pressure. Many of those are for forced-induction engines but some are normally-aspirated too.
If yours is NA, try making sure the ruber o-ring is clean.
You can alsy try putting Krank Vents on your car, which should help a little bit with the excess pressure and possibly with oil consumption.
...unless you have a leaking cylinder as your problem, in which case the Krank Vents aren't going to fix it. You might want to get a compression test and if it looks fine, Krank Vents.

has anyone experienced where the oil dipstick pops out a few inches and you have to push it back in every now and then?

so is it a design flaw on the dipstick or something worse?
i hope its just a design flaw.

If the car is running normally and not smoking then the first thing to do is to check the PCV system to make sure that it is functioning properly. If it's plugged, the dipstick will tend to blow out the way you have observed. If the PCV system is operating properly and the dipstick is being inserted properly, then the most likely cause is excessive blowby (which is why so many FI cars have this problem). The root cause here is that the rings aren't sealing well enough, but crankvents (or anything else that gets the pressure out of the crankcase) will help keep the dipstick in place. Excessive blowby doesn't necessarily mean that the rings are bad; You need to do wet and dry compression checks to get a better feel for the general condition of the engine.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but it's not a design flaw. Although there are a number of things that can contribute to this (as already pointed out), when the dipstick is clean and inserted properly it will not pop out unless there is excessive pressure in the crankcase. Crankvents may stop the dipstick from blowing out, but they aren't going to do anything for the root cause (whatever is causing the excessive pressure in the first place).

if this is happening to a lot of s owners i hope there's a tsb for it.
checking the pcv valve is a little harder than the 05 and belows. the 06+'s do not have the same type of pcv valve, so not sure how you would test it. as new as the car is, i'm pretty sure its not your rings wearing away, or something serious. there have been a few newer s2k's that had it pretty bad, took it to the dealer, and a new dipstick did fix it. i just did 2 aggressive drives, and it hasnt popped.

so, the dealer replaced the dipstick and you never had the probelm again. hopefully that's what i have.

no, never took it to the dealer. i was saying that i have seen a few stories where the dipstick was replaced. but yeah, just clean it well, and take it for a spin, see if it pops out after that.
anyone know where the location of the pcv valve on the 06?
