Default Disconnecting the Battery

hi guys. i am in the process of winterizing it. i want to keep the battery disconnected. got the -ve terminal out. but the +ve terminal's bolt is hard to work with using the adjustable wrench i got. so, is it ok to leave the +ve terminal connected, with just the -ve terminal disconnected (and taped)?

thanks.

I think thats fine, but for the cost, ide allways recomend atleast a cheap socket set in your collection, that way jobs like this will take two seconds and not require any hesitation

thanks, dude. agree; i need to have some basic collection of tools. i usually don't do any work myself. i am mechanically challenged! just caved in recently and got a torque wrench to swap winter wheels on the other car (used to get them done by a shop until last season).

thanks.

You'll be fine. If you can get a cheap battery maintainer your battery will last better.

the problem is, i live in an apartment building. there is no power outlet near my parking spots. so, i would have to keep the battery disconnected; and, connect it back once a month and run it briefly (as suggested by the manual).

thanks.

You can pull it out and keep it inside on a cheap $9 Harbor Freight maintainer. Just set it in a small pan. Shouldn't leak at all though.

should be okay, I usually try to insulate the cable with a shop towel when I do that so it doesn't spark up against the terminal or the hood by accident.

One should always disconnect the negative terminal first when removing a battery, and when inatalling, the negative is last to connect.

Why? Once you remove a leg from the battery there is no longer any potential in the system.

yeah, i am hoping that the leak is minimal, if any. since i am going to start it once a month and run it for about five minutes, i should be fine. (i do realize that a startup consumes more battery power)

thanks.
