Billman, that's not a bad idea for preventing engine damage. I'll be pulling the Valve cover on mine just to check things out.

Yea, I like that idea a lot. Hey if they throw that in, a paddle shifter won't be much farther away

[QUOTE=billman250,Sep 18 2004, 10:10 PM]I won't speculate on the cause of this. I believe the retainers are just not up to the job when pushed beyond their max, giving no insurance. Just a little more info...the keepers are in correct relative position to the valve stem, but the valve/keepers as a unit are sitting an honest 1/4 inch lower than they should be, in realtion to the retainer (in appearance, but in actuallity the retainer has moved up, raising the valve spring installed height)

If you know where to look, you will see it. This can be found by simply pulling the valve cover, and visually looking at the height of the stems in relation to the retainer. You will not see the cracked retainer, untill it's removed....hence..

The score on the cam/follow is from the edge of the retainer, right?

yup i guess the retainer scored the roller and that transfered to the cam.
I know what woodwork said about the engine living @ 9000 rpms but I can't
see if I did over rev how it would manage to just affect 1 retainer

BTW they are not covering the repair they insist that it was an Over-Rev
