Default DIY Clutch installation at home question

Ok so I am going to start my clutch replacement project soon and I was wondering whats the ideal height to get the car up in order to replace the clutch? I dont have a lift so stands will have to work. or worst case I could make some sort of ramp to drive up onto to keep the car more stable.

THANKS

I am dropping my tranny at home this weekend as well. From what I have seen on this site you need a minimum of 24" off the ground so the tranny will have clearance to come out.

Get some real heavy duty jack stands (harbor freight sells some) and see if you can get it 18 to 24 inches up.

The DIY thread has a lot of info

ya I saw the DIY stuff but never saw how high it needed to be to clear the tranny. also I have a set of craftsman jacks just need to measure them to make sure they will be high enough.

THANKS

2 feet is good! there no real height! its just the higher it goes, the easier it is to work! so 24 inches and up is good 2 go!

I think my stands are only 18-20 inches. I have to tip a transmission over a bit to slide it out from under the car, but it works. Higher is better, though.

don't get it too high so you wont be able to reach it with your hands while on the floor, otherwise you'll not have any leverage...

i did my clutch a couple of weeks ago.
i back the car up on raps then jack the front up.
you don't have to get it up really high because there's no need to pull the tranny out from under the car completely. i left the tranny under the car in the tunnel while replacing the clutch.

here are some pics.
