a. with stock exhaust it is 200% easier if removed.

b. once again is just easier. i have don both ways and with rear mounts out alot easier.

and if you remove the front mounts completely you wont have to fight it coming out.

thanks for the info and input.

yeah i hope i never have to do mine again but if anyone needs help i am for hire::

Cool...if I ever have to do it again, I'll try your method!

Forgot to add...the only other suggestion is to have a screw extractor or something else (like a high quality 12 point torx bit, common on VW applications) to get those diff to driveshaft bolts out. I've also read of some guys using a cut down hex key to ensure it doesn't move inside the bolt head.

The first time I tried it, I stripped every single bolt. Borrowed a friend's 12 point torx bit and they came out. The bit just wedged in there nicely with the rounded sides. It was an expensive Snap-On piece, I wouldn't try it with a cheapo one.

Reassembly with new bolts and liberal application of anti-seize and never a problem again. Now I can remove them with a hex key socket and a slight crank of the ratchet and good to go.

Ahh, the memories. I'm glad I was able to help you (or you help me, which ever way it was) install a diff into my car. She sure does feel more safe around turns.
Did it really take us 3.5 hrs? felt even shorter when your under the car for so long.

hey guys I need some help.
I just attempted to do this and I have rounded one of the allen key bolts. Would a screw removal tool work as it dosen't look like there's enough room there to fit a screwdriver or will it work by hand?
