One thing I would like to add to this is you should NEVER crawl under a car where the rear end is lifted and the front isn't unless the front is secured with some sort of roll stop. If the weight shifts the car could slip and fall even if it is on jackstands. If I need to work under the rear I lift the whole car onto 4 jackstands just incase. I'm sure plenty of others would agree. Other than that nice write up
Yup. A So-Cal member passed way during a diff swap when the car rolled and fell on him.

The trick with the bolts is to get good access, a good hex socket, and a good hard wrench on a breaker bar.

The car will need to be high off the ground and you may need to turn the driveshaft and reapply the handbrake a few times.

Don't forget to mark all your joints before disassembly if not already done

Here's another diff swap how-to: http://robrobinette....ifferential.htm

The propeller and drive shaft bolts are supposed to be replaced after they're removed. For removing the propeller shaft bolts I recommend a hex socket, extension and impact wrench. Make damn sure they hex key is fully seated into the bolt (hit it lightly with a hammer) before hitting it with the impact wrench.
