Default DIY transmission fluid change

I did a search and can't find a working link anymore. Just wanted to see how it was done since I have to get mine done soon.

Hmm, I see no link in the FAQ's up at the top for the transmission fluid change (engine oil and diff fluid are there).

OP: Transmission change is real easy. Just like any other fluid change on the car, take off the fill bolt first, which should be higher up on the transmission case. Then take off the drain bolt (I believe this one requires a 3/8" extension to take off). And try to "snap" the bolts loose. . .dont want to round anything off. Get some kind of a fluid pump or a hose, put in about 2qt then bring the car back down and allow any excess fluid to spill out. Jack the car back up, clean the area and you're done.

Sorry if anythings incorrect, but its pretty hard to mess it up anyway. The right bolts to undo are fairly obvious once you get under the car.

shouldibuy,

Since the DIY no longer exists, it'd be really helpful to document your fluid change and post.

J'sS2K,

If you had cared enough to check your post, xviper's DIY (along with many other helpful articles) have been removed. No sense in getting high and mighty.

My apologies. I last time I looked it was there. I have not checked back since then.

You'll be amazed how easy it is when you do it. I think easier and less mess than changing the engine oil and filter.

Now me who did it but here is a working link!

What if I don't have 4 jacks? Can I just jack up the front of the car instead and leave the rear wheels on the floor? I'm sure its not 100% optimal but will it be ok?

I'm not an expert, but with that method I believe you will need all 4. You need to keep the car level to insure that all the fluid has drained out and that you are not overfilling (or underfilling) the fluid.

The DIY on here earlier was actually helpful in regards to this - you didn't need all four. Here's a basic run down of the steps:

1.) Jack driver side of car up and take off filler plug and drain plug.
2.) Lower car down and let all fluid drain.
3.) Jack driver side back up and plug drain hole.
4.) Pump fluid in through fill hole (put more a little more than you need to insure that you filled enough).
5.) Lower car back down and allow excess to flow out.
6.) Jack driver side up and plug fill hole.

I'm working off my memory when I did it about a year ago, so I may have missed some of the smaller details.
