The Honda engineers did not put that airbox cover on for laughs and giggles.

Btw, it looks like a K&N air filter.
So if you want to keep it - and why not? - its worth it to get a K&N service kit.

Even with the airbox cover on it can heatsoak exceptionally bad.

I think people have posted on here with 140-150 iat's.

That's the point of the ecu retarding quite a few degrees of ignition for safety.

The issue here isn't the black mark on the valve cover. It isn't even the missing airbox lid. The problem is the level of neglect it takes to refuse to address either of these problems, especially when listing the car for sale. I'm not sure I would buy a car from someone who didn't even bother cleaning it. You don't know how often this person has changed any of the fluids or performed any of the other routine maintenance. Brake fluid looks dirty and I don't see any coolant in the rad overflow (could be because this pic was taken when the car was cold).

I'm not saying don't get it because it's dirty. Just take the apparent items (leaking VC, missing airbox lid) into account, but look for other less obvious things. Think of all the maintenance you would perform regularly if the car was yours - Trans Fluid, diff fluid, brake & clutch fluid, coolant, oil, accessory belt, valve adjustment. Check for the obvious ones, ask about the others. If you don't like the responses, or even their TONE, be wary.

Seems to be a lot of rust and rust-colored deposits on a number of fasteners (upper shock mount bushing retainers/studs), ABS fittings, throttle body, etc for a car with only 25k miles, even if in the rust belt. Sure it's not a flood salvage vehicle?

+1

I'd also pull a few of the underbody plugs and pull part of the carpet to look for silt especially if flood damage is a concern.

It could be that he didn't have time to drive the car which is why he didn't spend anytime cleaning it..as you guys said take everything into account...
