Default Does anyone know the TRUTH about the Spoon Thermostat?

I heard a rumor that the Spoon Thermostat and/or fan switch may throw a "check engine" light on 2002 S2000's...

I will be using a Spoon radiator cap as well and wondered with all the talk, if I am going to be running into this problem.
If so, is there a solution?
Thanks.

I don't see how. What code could it force? Sounds like a bad rumor or bad diagnosis. I don't have that gear but I know there is no code for 'too cold'.

What? Where the hell did you hear that rumor? If you heard it, it must be from somebody. Seriously, I had them before I got the Mugen set-up. It didn't throw anything in my MY2000 so I seriously doubt it would in a 2002.

I don't see how there is any way possible either.

TypeSH has an '02 with the Spoon Thermostat / Switch / Cap, and he hasn't been getting any CELs. He does feel like it is too cold though. He hooked up an OBD-II scan tool, and his temps stay in the low 150 range (deg. F). He is considering replacing them with Mugen versions. I have the Mugen versions, and my temps stay in the mid 160 range.

I got the Mugen thermostat and radiator cap (I think I got the radiator cap) when I had my short block replacement. What's the fan switch story? Sorry for being so clueless.

Can anybody explain or point me to a thread which tells me the value of:
the thermostat?
the radiator cap?
the fan switch?

I imagine that running at 180 deg instead of 190 deg will be worse for emissions and better for engine life. I imagine a lower pressure radiator cap and lower temperature thermostat will allow that goal. I guess the fan switch will come on at a lower temp too, but I'm guessing. My fan switch is stock.

I have spoon set up... and I haven't put it on the car... if spoon runs colder than Mugen, that is good. cuz I am using the Mugen ECU, it is better if the temp is lower, plus, Taiwan is gonna be a hot hot hot place..!!

Thanks for the straight forward explanation, gernby. I actually understood it completely. Yes, I did get a higher pressure radiator cap and a 180 deg thermostat.
