I saw this posted somewhere. The last part doesn't sound right. This is in regards to a civic that honda recommends to use 5w20. The guy makes it sound like using 5w30 or 5w40 would CREATE heat from friction....
Engineering graduate here with terrible spelling also!!. What he refers to as oil as a means of heat transfer mechanism is very true.

His statement about 5w30 or 5w40 doesn't mean that it would create heat from friction, it mean that it has the capacity to hold much more energy (in the form of heat) and takes longer to dissipate it, thus the misleading "generating heat concept".

dude is getting way way to precise here. he has valid points, as i have written several articles on heat rejection of certain oils. but i mean, its so miniscule. like i said, hes getting to precise.
as for his spelling, maybe he was in a hurry. just run 10/30 and smile. lates.

Hey Dave, I find this to be a fairly interesting topic, and I'd love to learn more, do you have links to any of these articles on heat rejection you've written? It's been a while since I took thermodynamics but hopefully I'll be able to keep up.
Cheers,
Mike

LOL, nice, touche. actually these were articles written for an aircooled newsletter, in the early 90s. ive been building aircooled motors for a long ass time. and many have encountered the problem of motor failure running older synthetics. and so i gathered all the info i could, and wrote it all up. and it was distributed to help some of the folks in our group. i learned alot from writing those articles, im no tribologist but was in school at the time, and had access to a guy who worked at the martinez facility, where they play with redline. and i was running redline in my airpumper. and was concerned about my 10k motor locking up.
anyways. have fun. dave

"this doesn't seem right"

I remember the good old days when our moderators cracked down on topic titles like that.
