Default Doing a clutch yourself with no lift

I got my SOS supercharger in today, and know it will only be a matter of time before I need a clutch.

I've done a clutch before on a FWD car without a lift. It was time consuming but I could do it.

Is this really something one can do on this car? I mean, realistically. I know I could do the clutch myself if I had a lift without much issue, but can I do it with the car on jackstands?

I can pay to get it done or rent out a lift (know a few people), so that's not really an issue.

Thoughts?

i did the job on a ap1. its not bad, take your time, and you have to lower the engine cradle a bit.

i used the factory helms manual. shit saved my life, and directions were spot on :-)

one word of advice is to get a transmission jack because the transmission is rather large and is pretty heavy.

having that jack saved my life + back. ALSO be sure to get 6mm hex socket because the stupid metric ones will not work / break / strip bolts n shit.

I did it on jack stands and I don't think it being on stands made any difference. With it jacked up high their is lots of clearance. I was skeptical at first about doing in on stands but I honestly think it made it easier laying on my back than standing. Plus if you don't have a transmission hoist it would be hard to do it with a lift. With jack stands you can just balance the tranny on the jack.

people have done clutch changes in S2Ks in parking lots.

yes the fork needs to come out before the transmission does. Or the transmission won't....

I just did this twice last month. My advice is to read the "how to" thread and follow the directions. The higher you can lift the car, the easier. Doing it on a lift is much faster IMO but on the floor isn't horrible.

Tall jack stands will make your life a lot easier, as others have said. I helped out with a clutch job last year, and not being on a lift really wasn't much of an issue. I think we had the car about 20" off the ground on big jack stands.

I've done several using heavy harbor freight jack-stands. It is a more difficult clutch job than any other car I have done but not beyond a decent home mechanic.

I agree with the others, it's not that hard and you can do it on jack stands no problem. I swapped out my whole engine in my driveway on jackstands.
