Downshifting to the correct gear?
What are the gears max speeds.
I am asking so when I downshift while racing I get the maximum power.
I usually am going 55 on the freeway when I end up racing someone. I usually go to 3rd. Can I go to 2nd?
Motor is stock.

One easy way to determine this is to run to red line in second. With a stock setup (MY00-03) you can get to about 63 MPH at redline depending on the diameter of the rear tires.
I autocross on a regular basis and get there quite often.
So, if you drop to second while doing 55 it will work, but you won't have much head room before red line. It's a good idea to rev match if you do something like this.
Third may be a better choice because you won't be in second for long.

Try and get yourself in the proper range before the race...like only try to start if you're at ~60-65...then drop into third and you'll be in the power band. Likewise, if you want second gear, try to be around 40.

I would think that, in most cases, as long as the downshift doesn't take you more than 200 to 300 rpm below VTEC, you'd be better off taking that hit than having to upshift again almost immediately after the initial downshift but that would definitely depend on the circumstances.
Bottom line is, the only way you'll really figure this out is to hit the track and practice. After a while, you should start to get an intuitive sense of what gear you can downshift to that will yield the best results for the situation.
Just please don't go slamming it into second at 70+ mph. Doing that will really make a mess!

If he's asking this question, I doubt he's matching revs.

1 gear max approx 40
2 60
3 80
4 100
5 120
give or take a mph or two. and to repeat someones earlier question, how long you had the damned thing? just get in it and rev out each gear and take a glance at the speedo
Xviper, over rev? Me, never.
Anyways, when I down shift I need to be in power band always to maximize power? So if I am going 55 and downshift to 3rd I dont believe I will be in powerband right away? So if I go to 2nd of course I am in power band but need to shift quickly?
Correct me if I am wrong.

you are correct...squeeze your way closer to 60 for the 3rd gears powerband so its not such a drastic jump in rpm on the downshift so you have time to set up for the next gear...
And please...be care ful.... top of third into second gear is a scary experience especially in a RWD car....
