Default Drive Shaft Bolt Length AP1

OEM bolts are 8x60mm and 8x65mm for the AP1.

I have a specialty bolt shop nearby that stocks a high grade metric 12.9 grade black socket head cap (allen head) bolts. My honda dealer does not stock these bolts.

The shop has a 8x60mm, so that's covered.

But I can't find a 8x65mm...
will a 8x70mm bolt be ok instead...or does it need to be 65mm exactly??? If it's 5mm to long, will it damage anything?

most people I know get the belmetrics with the 12pt head if switching to something other than OEM. They are 60mm and 65mm lengths. 65 for the diff end, 60 for the trans end.

BTP8X65BLK for one end
BTP8X60BLK for the other

Are those 12.9 grade bolts?

Thanks!

I thought the factory allen head bolt had to do with accessibility...but if you can use a 12pt, then I'm not sure why the OEM one was allen head?

On another topic...Googling 10.9 vs 12.9 grade and potential where the higher grade can actually be bad in certain situations. Interesting

I wonder what OEM was? I bet it was 10.9

I mean...I found this on amazon. Grade 12.9 at the proper 65mm.

But do I trust Amazon bolts for the driveshaft...that is the question

Amazon Grade 12.9 8x65mm bolt Amazon Grade 12.9 8x65mm bolt

12.9 isnt a grade. Its a class.
Metric bolts are not graded.

Semantics aside, why shop Amazon if you have doubts?

Use belmetric.com. They have a huge variety of fasteners.

A bolt that is 5mm too long may hit the diff. So...I wouldn't do that.

The 12pt ones do work. The ability to use an external drive with a 12pt is an advantage. But unfortunately, they are black oxide coated which will rust quickly.

FWIW, the ideal fastener is a C10.9 with zinc plating or C10.9 or 12.9 with galvanizing.

Belmetric has C12.9 galvanized (flake coating) in the right sizing. Enjoy your new bolts.

my belmetrics look just like they did 3 years ago when I installed them. No rust at all. I believe Billman also recommends the same ones

Yes. Black oxide is fine on a fair weather car.
