Default Driveshaft runout

Hello all,

Today I had the car on the lift to inspect for a vibration that only occurs at high speeds only during acceleration and deceleration. So I put my dial indicator on the driveshaft and I measured 0.018 inches of runout. I forgot the OEM service limit on that, but I'm pretty sure that's excessive. For comparison, I measured the runout on both the differential and transmission flanges and it was under 0.002. Any advice? thanks!

No advice on play, but are you aware of the CV joint vibration that is common?

Yes I'm aware. I have 2 brand new axles on this car, and it took care of most of the vibration, but there's still some to be felt. This is the reason I'm focusing on the driveshaft this time.

Service Limit according to the manual, with the dial on the center of the driveshaft, is 1.5mm or 0.06". So it appears you are within limits .

^thanks for providing the number . I had the car at 65mph in 6th gear on the lift and the transmission was moderately shaking with the driveshaft visibly shaking as well. Everything in the rear was smooth.

Take it off and get a driveshaft company to balance it for you.

Heh, the service manual is pretty harsh -- gives you three things to inspect, but each has only one solution: "replace the propeller shaft."
