Default why did this happen with low miles?

ok so im looking to buy a s2000 it has 115000 miles on it and the owner said he took it to his mechanic and the compression came out to be this-(130,220,230,220),

why would this happen with low miles so soon? or is this a s2000 motor thing? i dont know to much about f20c enignes so its time to learn

115k is low mileage?

But low compression could be caused by a lot of things. For example a slight over rev could've bent the valves and that could be the reason, could be that it needs a valve adjustment, could be broken/worn retainers. My advice is to not buy that s2000 and just keep looking; I had low compression on one of my cylinders and that was at around 30k miles, had to rebuild the head because of it and I would NOT go through anything like that again given the choice lol.

Not low mileage...not overly high mileage, but 100k on any engine is something to be looked at cautiously. Compression numbers don't look good, so either get it thoroughly inspected or pass. That one cylinder could be the beginning of nothing but headaches.

Since when is 100k high on anything these days??? Does anyone read the "anyone over 100k miles thread" in here? Its like 16 pages long, and there are several s2k's with over 200k miles and going strong. I did not buy this car to scrap it at 100k...

That is certainly not "low miles", but I would expect the motor to put up much better compression numbers than that. It could just be in need of a minor valve job, but I would ask the seller to fix it before you buy it. I believe a leak down test would tell you more.

considering the bad cylinder is one of the end ones, i bet it's cylinder #4. a small number of people have reported that cylinder #4 can get scored. some people claim it happens when running the engine at high rpms for an extended period of time or running the engine on low oil level for too long.

honda has never officially admitted there's a problem w/ the oiling system but they did revise the oil jet bolts some time around 2002.
