droppin in new engine
hi im new to the forums never really posted here but need some help...
I have a 01 s2000 but started having engine trouble ... i went to the dealership to get a engine diagnostic and they told me that I have rod knock in 2 of my cylinders and upper valve train problems, they recommended me drop a new engine in instead of trying to fix it because it be cheaper that way..
i know someone that has an 03 longblock with tranny.. how will this work if i wanted to drop this in.. would I need to reprogram my chip and everything or would it just be fine dropping it in... i know theres some differences between the 03 tranny and the 01 please help... thanks

Did you ask them how much it would cost to do both options (fixing/replacing)?

On eBay right now, it ranges from 3500 to 5k. There is one FS in the FS forum, I think it is listed at 4500.
00-03 trannys are basicly the same. The clutch/pp where updated, but the trannys are the same.
As far as install goes, it is straight forward. Remove old one, transfer parts you don't have on the new one (wires, ect..) and drop it in. Nothing needs to be changed as far as the ECU is concerned.
To tear down the motor, they will want 800 or more. So why bother if you can get a good deal on a used LongBlock?

basically... all this happened cuz i didn change the oil... im so pissed over some stupid sh*t.... i got this 100% synthetic oil thats advertised as bein good for 15,000 miles i thot ok that be good for me to drive at least 10k miles before havin to change it again turns out after drivin 8k it would break down... sigh... didn think s2000s ate oil that quick...learned my lesson tho
Changing the oil may not hav been the problem. Checking the oil level was most likey the cause.
And yes it could be cheaper. PM jbotstein1, he has one for less them 2k. And even with shipping will come in lower.
Yes, this car drinks oil. The more you Vtec the faster it goes.

I change mine ever 3k miles. That may not be entirely necessary, but at least check it often. The owner's manual says to check it on every fill-up. I don't do that since I like to check it in the morning before driving when the oil is completely cold, but I do check it about every 200 miles.
