ECU swap
So I may get an '02 ECU for my '00 AP1 and I heard I may get better gains and better engine smoothness after I get tuned with my vafc2. What steps are needed to do this? Vin number? Dealership steps, etc?

i will trade you my ecu with your 00...and maybe some cash since it only has 18XXX miles on it and its an 02
edit: this way we both have a set of keys that go with it, so you don't have to get it programed by the dealership and waste more money!!!

I just did this. I honestly didnt feel a large difference if any. Possibly a very little gain between 2K-3K in tq. Overall, very little gains. I am planning on doing a back-to-back dyno sometime soon.
You need a 02-03 ECU with the VIN. You will bring your car to the dealership (with current ECU still installed) with all your keys. Uninstall the old one, plug in the new one & have the tech program the keys to the ECU. Should take no longer than 30min if the tech knows what he is doing. He will need to pull up the codes on his computer with the VIN of the new ECU.
I recommend that you prep your ECU for uninstall/reinstall before heading to the dealership. It is located under the panel by your left foot on the driver's side.
If everything installed properly, the immobilizer key icon should NOT be blinking with your keys inserted, no check engine light & the car should start up.
Good luck.
