Actually, I know,

I was making a high speed pass the other day and my fuel pump went wayyyy South. The data logs later confirmed it with an EGO voltage that dropped from mid 4 volts to under 1 volt for the last 2 or so miles.

During that time my EGT read about 1600 degrees. As of now my compression is like 195, 174, 145, 128. I have run the car hard, 80 or so seconds at wide open throttle, with temps as high as 1500 degrees with no damage. A four valve head has small valves so you can get away with high temps more than a two valve head, but still, I would say 1450 is what you should shoot for as a max.

Keep the shiny side up,

Jim

EGT is not a good tuning tool. You can get high EGTs from either timing retard or wrong a/f ratio. get a wideband 02.

I wouldn't be so quick to discard the EGT as a tuning tool. We use a combination of EGO voltage and EGT to dial in the HP numbers. And so far we've gotten 238 RWHP from a stock situation using the Electromotive Tec III to drive everything.

All the best,

Jim
