Situation: I'm an idiot.
Case: I was fiddling around with my reverse light bulbs and put bulb that was too small into the socket (Fig 1).
Fig 1. Note. I'm an idiot.
I turned the key to ignition, gear is in reverse, and my instrumental panel lights go out.
Diagnostics of electronics:
Pretty much everything works except for my:
- Power passenger window from drivers and passengers side (I've double checked the window switch and tried it in both, the on and off position),
- The reverse lights (both sides),
- and 90% of my instrumental panel. // To my knowledge, the only lights that turn on are the battery and key detection lights.
I've checked a plethora of fuses, #5, #9, #17, #18, #23, #25, and #45 (visual inspection) and they all seemed to be good.
Not sure what else I can check before taking a multi-meter to source the issue + reverse switch. Any possible advisory for my next steps?
Prior to this, situation, all electronics were in working order.
Check all the fuses. You can test them in place, as there are probe windows on top side of fuse.
The fuse sequence numbering in the service manual vs owners manual is reversed. This makes it challenging when you look something up and it says, say, fuse #9, which fuse is that really? When you have a perplexing issue, just check them all. Again, can be done without removing fuses.
