Default Daytime driving lights module?

Anyone know of, or have the savvy to create, a module for daytime driving lights that would plug in readily to the s2k? I'm thinking of something that ties the headlights directly into the ignition, so the lights would automatically turn on when you turned on the ignition and turn off when you removed the key. Nothing elaborate, although I'd be open to that.

This question was prompted by a discussion in another thread about the extra safety provided by driving with lights on during the day, especially if (like myself) you drive a silver s2k.

Generally the first thing after I start the car is turn on the light. Although DRL is neat, I don't think I'd be willing to spend money on a module if I could turn it on myself.

Having said that, wouldn't it/or couldn't it be something a relay that ties into the ignitioin. You'd leave your light switch on all the time, but when the ignition is off, there's no power or ground to the switch.

What I REALLY wish I had was something to auto-brighten the dash when the lights are on.

I use the lights ALWAYS, and have to brighten (holding the + until it brightens) every time I start the car. I hate having to reach through the steering-wheel to do that so often.

"Painless Wiring" has the module you want. It has all the relays and instructions.

I have been working on designs for modules to do both. Run high beams at half intensity when ignition is on (but turn off when headlights are turned on). Run the turn signal lamps as DRL when the ignition is on, but still flash when signal switch is used (thanks to S2WOOW for confirming I was on the right track). And an auto-dimmer for the digital display that keeps the display in day mode (bright) when the headlight switch is on, but dims it when darkness falls.

The designs are complete, but I have been working very late (and weekends) so I have not tested them out yet. I ordered connectors for the lights, so no wires have to be spliced. The parts are supposed to arrive today. Naturally it will be after 9:00PM when I get home so I will not get to them tonight I expect to have them done in early Sept.

When complete I will post schematics and parts lists. Any interest in kits or assembled modules?

DRL conversions kits have been around for a long time, especially in Canada so people with pre-DRL cars can get with the program. It's not a simple matter of turning on just your headlites, in the S2K's case, the high beams. Proper DRLs turn on the lights at 50-60% of their full strength for daytime use. A simple Web Ferret search came up with this and many more such products:

not_a_z3, thanks for the lead, I'll check it out. By the way, their URL is

Rex, since I started this thread, I have to say I'd be interested in an assembled module. I'm going to check out painless (painless is definitely what I want), but let me know by PM or whatever when yours would be available and how much you'd want.
