Default electrical problems?

Whats up guys. I own a 2001 s2k. Couple of days ago they was a good storm where i live and i was on my way back home from work and i accidently hit a puddle and water went.inside my cold air. Car shut off on me , and i took off the cold air off cleaned it. Drove back home without an intake on. Days later my dash was starting to dim and stereo was turning in and off. Turned off the car, tried turning it.back on, wouldnt start. Bought a new batter cause the battery i had was bad and the car turned on perfecfly. Later that night same thing happened, but worst. ABS turned off, power steering turned off and dash was off and every time i pressed the throttle the car would act like its choking. Wondering if my ecu went bad, or my alternator?

Is the new battery dead now too? If that is the case then its your alternator. I know running a car on just the battery can damage an ecu. So i would start there.

As for the sucking up of water, either your motor is hurt because water is not compressable and you might have bent a rod or two, or you got very lucky and just your alternator is dead.

Also after testing and or replacing the alternator make sure you check all of the ground locations because loose grounds have been known to cause the dash to flicker and dim.

You drove through water in such a way as to get water inside the CAI and make the car died. That means water got elsewhere in the engine bay. Your car is 11 years old. There are several fuse related boxes and dozens of "weather resistant" electrical connectors in the engine bay. After 11 years, those seals and connectors are probably not so water proof anymore. Some of them are critical to some of the car's functions while others don't mind a little water too much. Buying new parts now may not be the answer. Dry the thing out or give it time to dry out on its own, then you may have to check everything for water related corrosion, just like you would a "flood" car. Water + electricity = not a good thing.

I dont think the new battery is dead. I went to 2 honda dealers yesterday and they both told me they were electrical problems. So i kind of ruled out the alternator. But since you just told me it can be, ill go get it checked today. Thanks for the advice.

So would you recommend to do an oil change and change spark plugs or pretty much do a tune up? Or check if all my fuses and sensors got damaged by possibly water getting in them?

That's up to you. If it were my car, I'd check things first. You may not need an oil change or new plugs. Look at them first. The fuses are only part of the problem. It's all the electrical connectors that may not have kept water out and the underhood fuse boxes that got wet inside and started to corrode the wiring. Your sensors are screwed into things and buried from harm's way. It's their connectors that may have suffered.

start the car then disconnect the battery and see if it quits. If it quits running the altemnrator is shot, if it begins to run bad you may have an alternator that is not putting out the 13.7 to 14.2 volts needed to keep the battery charged adn run the car properly
