Default Engine Blown *update 9/24/08*

**UPDATE 2**
I got my car back today! The new engine feels good. So sick of driving that loaner civic around. It was strange not getting glances and glares from people on the road.

Besides the new engine, I guess you could say I got a free oil change as well?
***********

**UPDATE**
Jack Ellena Honda has taken my engine apart and found the rod had cracked. They will be putting a new engine in and they are giving me a loaner car this afternoon.
They were very apologetic and never tried to push any guilt on me what-so-ever.

Needless to say I am a happy man with this outcome.

***********
I was driving home from work last night when my engine began making a ticking sound. About once a second. It got faster as my RPMs got higher. So I decided to keep it easy and kept the RPMs below 3500. By the time I got home the ticking became a tocking and I was about two gears higher than I should have been to keep the RPMs as low as I could.
I made it home and checked the engine bay. Nothing I could see loose or out of place.
I decide to wait for my fianc

Two things.

1. Yes they could be related.

2. I have read several accounts like yours and for some reason people keep driving after it makes a bad noise. Don't do that.

If your engine makes death noises shut it off and call a tow truck. Your $500 repair just became a $5000 repair.

The saving grace is the oil change they messed up. Good luck.

ya man i would connect those two together i would say the engine was probably damaged when the drain plug came out. Although i wouldnt expect them to own up to it being there fault but who knows they might but anyway good luck. If they give you too much of a hard time and dont want to work with you, you should call honda of america

Holy Crap.

Sorry sir we must of not torque her down right. Here is a coupon, maybe we will get it right next time.

Oil changes, so much at stake for a 30-40 dollar job.

That's why you DIY. I let my oil drain at least an hour, you'd be surprised how much more you get out. At the chop shops, it's all about speed. Plus that, I end up waiting in line for 40 minutes most of the time, screw that noise.

Sounds like a probklem I had occured months back after i first got my s2000. i have a 2003, so problems should of been revised by now, but the engine oil burning still had effect. My engine burnt so much oil that i didn't even know it burnt it, it was bone dry. Cost me $3600 to swap in a new motor (2002 motor with 35,000 miels on it). And yes, I wish I knew more back in the days and to not drive it when hearing that ticking noise.

100% without a doubt related... looks like they own you an engine.

You should have made them come tow it back when you found the oil drain bolt gone. At least they owe you an engine.
