[QUOTE=gerardog,Mar 22 2008, 07:30 AM] I still can't believe it... just picked up my brand new 07 deep burgundy from the dealer last week (after 6 yrs and 85,000 miles with my 02 silverstone and no problems at all) and last night while crusing on the highway, all of a sudden I hear this LOUD whirring noise and the engine stalls. I manage to pull in a service area, pop open the hood try to start the engine and all I hear is this TERRIBLE knocking sound from the engine head under the valve cover. Something got really screwed up .. still can't believe it..

thats an AP2 for ya! just kidding, but that really sucks...honda will replace it, my dad bought a certified pre-used civic and the block cracked after he had it for 4 months and they replaced the engine for free
Yes it is an ap2, with an AP1 engine (you know the part that failed spectacularly).

No, it's not the 2.2 but the good old 2.0L. I didn't over rev or do anything like that.. I was cruising along the highway and the rpm was under 6K (I didn't even go into VTEC once since I bought it!). So it must have been a manufacturing defect.. I still don't know what happened but from how it sounds (like a diesel from the 80's ) I think it's going to need a new engine...

I would like to meet the guy who assembled my engine in Japan

What do you think went wrong?

Happy Easter from Italy
You are supposed to be really easy on it during the break in before you play around 6k rpms.

Ok .... went this morning to take a look at it and the mechanic showed me what went wrong. Basically there's a bolt (number 9 in the picture) that holds the timing chain mechanism in place and it just broke. The timing chain mechanism slid forward a bit and started to rub against the valve cover (that was the LOUD noise). Fortunately, the timing chain continued to work properly so no bent valves, ect...

However since the other piece of the bolt (just the head broke off) is still in the cylinder head, they said that they will replace the entire engine cyclinder head block with a brand new one.. but it's not available in Europe (guess this doesn't happen very frequently.. huh!) and it will arrive from japan in about 2 weeks

Such a torture to see my brand new S and can't drive it around in spring days

Ciao
