No CEL's. Ive heard you can get DTC's without a CEL but haven't checked.

Hi Guys,

My car still has this issue. I have an air pump delete kit arriving next week, but i have my doubts as to wether this is an air pump problem now.

Any ideas what i should change next? maybe it is the evap system or perhaps an oil pressure problem?

expert help to get this fixed once and for all would be much appreciated. Honda, and the local specialists near me, don't have a clue what could be causing it. Its a real mystery.

Just to recap, the car is running fine after it has warmed up a little. It starts up fine, but if you blip the throttle within the first min (until the air pump has gone off), the car revs, surges and bogs with loss of power.

If i start the car, let it tick over until the air pump stops cycling, it drives absolutely fine, and will continue to do so for the rest of the day.

Just to recap, i have changed everything on the cooling system, all of the inlet manifold accessories, i have changed the oil filter and the rocker cover gaskets and spark plugs. The belt has been changed and i have done a visual inspection underneath the rocker cover, and everything looks fine.

There is a minor oil leak (looks like oil vapor leak looking at the fine quantity) coming from the oil hose which runs along the front engine case, next to the belt and pulleys.

Any ideas?

Thanks for everyones help so far.

FIXED IT AT LAST!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure its totally fixed now. In the unlikely event anyone else gets similar symptoms, here was the problem.

I noticed a tiny (minuscule) oil leak around the vtec solenoid so removed it to check it out and refit.
Once removed, i discovered a piece of rubber seal blocking the small mesh gauze filter inside the solenoid chamber (possibly part of the old spark plug seals in the rocker cover from when i had the rocker cover powdercoated some time ago.

This piece must have been almost totally blocking oil flow when the oil was cold and after running the engine for a little while, i'm guessing the viscosity of the oil was more suitable for pushing its way through the few unblocked areas of the chamber.

Anyway, it is running very smoothly now (can't remember the last time it revved and didn't stutter like this before) and i'm hoping this has fixed it for good. I should probably remove the sump i guess now, just in case there are any more pieces in there.

I'm pretty excited about the prospect of my misery and torment being over. Fingers crossed.

Thanks to everyone for there help.

Best, Nick

This is my first time reading into this problem and man I hope you found the fix. It is a MoFo when trying to diag a prob with no success. I wouldnt have guessed that that was the fault. I was leaning torward maybe a leaking purge control solenoid, but only when cold was a little puzzling. Good work man. Should pat yourself on the back for this one. If the germlin doesnt reture "crossing fingers".

Kudos for following up and keeping everything updated. Hopefully no one else will have this problem, but if they do they have a great thread to follow for a solution.

I am glad your problem is fixed ^_^. I am still trying to diagnose my coolant problem. My guess is my coolant probably evaporated before it reaches anything.
