Engine idle high then shut off?

Engine idle high then shut off?
I'm currently TDY (military) and my wife just called me saying the car starts and drives normal, after she drives for a short period of time and than stops at a stop light the car idles at 1400 rpm instead of 800 and then shuts off. She said it also felt like the clutch was slipping, but she now thinks its the same issue. Any ideas?
