Default Engine Issue

I've started experiencing problems a few weeks ago... First thing I noted that the exhaust would have quite a smell to it whenever making a complete stop and others noted that the car would spit out clouds of smoke. Then I had a few instances of chatter upon start-up which I figured to be the cam-chain tensioner, however, my case was mild and only experienced a few times I believe. Now for some reason the car runs fine up until about 5k rpm where as after just starts to break up like it is almost hitting the rev limiter however it seems to get some fuel and struggles violently toward higher rpm. I'm not sure what the problem is and would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Failed to mention that I have an invidia testpipe so the cat is out of the question.

Yeah faulty cat wouldn't result in plumes of smoke anyway, would it? I haven't noticed any visible difference in the exhaust without the cat on mine.

What color is the smoke, white or black? Color will tell us if it's coolant or oil getting in there...

no CEL's?

maybe its your injectors...or you've got bent valves...

do a compression and leakdown test...that should give you some answers...

Thanks for the help, is there any way the cam-chain tensioner could be the cause of the problems? I doubt it's bent valves as the engine runs fine as usual up to a certain rpm. Thanks.
