Default Engine might be done..

Just noticed tonight after a drive that there is this loud knocking sound coming from my block.

Not sure what it is exactly yet, might be a spun bearing. The oil is fine and clean. We suspect the previous owner might not have done oil changes regularly..

My question is, how much roughly does it cost to get it rebuilt with labor, or used f20 with labor to put it in?

By the way, my engine is completely stock besides exhaust.

Thanks for all help!

really thats it.. how many miles do you have on the engine? did you did any leak down test? compression test? weird idlin' noise that could be a probable cause..

Car is an 02 with 72k miles on it. Compression test was fine, didn't do a leakdown yet. Idle has always been normal until yesterday night.

First thing I would do is pull the oil pan and do some investigating and get a leakdown test done. If the motor is done, go the same route I went and buy a used block. I bought mine from a member on here for $1500 shipped with about 40,000 miles on it. I got a really good deal on it. Expect to go through more labor and money if planning to rebuild. Good luck.

^^Yep you should be able to tell from pulling the oil pan if you have a spun bearing

Yeah I think I'm going to get a shop to open it up and see what exactly is wrong. If it's just bearings and rods I'll just replace those, but if not it looks like i'll have to look into a new short block.

Open it up yourself, all it takes is a basic socket set and a few extra tools. Why pay 80$ an hour for a monkey to do the same thing? Take pictures post them up here and people could probably help you out. If it is shot, pull the short block and take it to a shop to reassemble if you dont feel comfortable doing so. It really is not that hard to take a motor apart.

Check the plugs first.

Cut the oil filter open with a filter cutter or pipe cutter. If there is metal in it you know you have to pull it down.

mmmm , if you are hearing it and it is bearings, odds are the whole bottom end is shot. By the point it gets to where it is a noticeable knock everything has been knocked out of wack.
