Default Engine oil pressure light

Gentlemen,

when you start the engine, how long does it take in your cars for the engine oil pressure light to get out?

Mine sometimes need 1 second. Car is often sitting for 1 to 2 weeks.

Oil is a thin 10w-40, almost 10w-30. Oilfilter is genuine Honda, the PCX..... Type for the S2000.

Seems normal based on my experience.

My light stays on that long sometimes when the car has been sitting for awhile.

If its been sitting, oil will leak past the filters anti drainback valve and drain back to pan. So on next startup, pump has to refill that entire length of passages before pressure builds. The delay to accomplish that is what you're seeing in delay for light to go out.

A similar thing happens when this valve starts to go bad in the filter, but in that scenario the oil drains back in only a few hours. Crappy filters tend to have this wear out sooner. Another good reason not to use crappy filters in any car. All those dry starts add up. Also another good reason to change filter at every oil change in any car (some people just change filter every other oil change, as some owners manuals suggest this.) New filter, new valve.

Thank you all! Now i have peace of mind.

@ Car Analogy: I was aware of the drainback problem, i was thinking that the original Honda Oilfilter dont have this problem.

All USA owners and service manuals list the filter as every-other oil change maintenance. But they're inexpensive and you have oil all over your hands anyway so why not change it?

Correct. The valve in any quality filter should last the duration of its lifespan. The Honda filter is the only one I'll use in the S.
