Engine Overhaul Help!
So.....I bought an 2003 Berlina Black, with black interior, with 60,000 on it last year. Upon going home to visit some family. (im military soni had taken some leave after the purhase) I wanted to ahow it off and race. So i was at the top of third and when i went to hit 4th i slid it into 2nd and over-revved it like an idiot, through a valve through my head. After looking at eBay motors and OEM replacements I found that going aftermarket is wayyyy cheaper. You can buy a rebuilt head through autozone for $455 dollars or have a locals machine shop rebuild it. I went with purchasing a good head through a guy on these forums for cheap as dirt $310 dollars an had it rebuilt for $150 dollars. I then had my block honed and bored a millimeter over stock (piston size is 87 stock, I'm running 88). I ordered Brian crower rods an pistons through thmotorsports.com that came out to 1,000. My main bearings looked good so I didn't have to have the crank turned. I ordered acl rod and main bearings for about $150. New timing chain and oil pump chain which is about $120 all together, you need a new oil pump and that's about $250. I don't know if the vtec solenoid is cleanable or not. So you might need a new one if those. I bought a top and bottom gasket kit off of eBay for $100. You also need a set of thrust washers, I got mine from injected performance. You're also going to need head bolts, you can find arp head bolts for about $130 if you look hard. Also to build the block you are going to need to use either permatex gray sealant or hondabond, permatex can be found at your local autoparts store and hondabond at the dealer, I found some on amazon for cheap as dirt. I'm still in the middle of the build right now but I will give more info as I go. I'm scared as shit right now though! I hope this bitch starts and runs lol! Good luck though! Btw I'm about 3,000 in the motor building it myself with my mechanic buddy as well, price includes shop work.
Sorry for the late update. I ended up just buying a used f22 motor with 98k on it for 2300 shipped with the harness. I figured it was cheaper than trying to rebuild the motor at this point. I got it last week but been so busy i havne't put it in the car yet so im going to be working on it today. going to bleed my brakes, clutch, and change out the transmission and diff fluids while the car is in the air.
Good luck man I hope everything goes well for you.
I try my hardest to keep up on my oil level, I do it at LEAST every fill up.
It usually dont take much every fill up, but a little bit over so many thousand miles adds up quickly.
