I'll probably just remove one of the hoses for the sandwich plate and connect the turbo coolant lines there.

I want to remove the sandwich as I have an oil cooler and it is very tight down there.

Looks like our problem came from an incorrect setting in the AEM. The Sync Teeth parameter for the crank angle sensor was set to 5 when it should have been 3.

So the hypothesis is that the AEM picked up the wrong timing and that caused the bad running and overheating.

Credit goes to StevHarr for finding the problem and me for being insistent it wasn't a mechanical issue so he'd keep looking.

Any other suggestions for the coolant lines?

Is are the lines to the Oil Cooler/Warmer sufficient? I really don't want to put a T-piece in the upper radiator hose.

I've been meaning to remove the Oil Cooler/Warmer for some time but the problem is finding a spindle that is shorter to allow the aftermarket oil cooler adaptor to screw on directly against the block.

No wreckers I've been to have them as they go with engines and Honda parts won't sell me one off a Civic unless I give them a VIN number.

Option 1) Write down the VIN for one of the Civics at the scrap yard and give that to your Honda parts guy when ordering.

Option 2) See if these guys will ship to AU:
HondaAutomotiveParts.com
(That's for a Civic Si... not sure which one you needed.)

I love it when someone quotes a huge post including pictures then asks a question which shows they haven't bothered to read the thread.

The block is stock and has been honed. The crank rods and pistons are also stock.

Why are you doing a rebuild? An overheat isn't necessarily cause for a rebuild. Unless you seized it and scuffed the block.

Finally got a parts guy to order one for me.

I told him I needed a part from a different car so I had no VIN number. He told me you need a VIN to ensure you get the part for the right car. I explained that I wanted the part for the wrong car.

I told him I needed a different oil filter spindle so I can remove my oil cooler.

He spent some time looking, then said the first three models he looked at didn't have them and the price was $700 odd dollars. He had somehow derived from my explanation that I wanted an oil cooler. I quickly explained his misunderstanding and he came back with a price of $6 for a spindle from a Civic.

Should be here Friday.

I also picked up some 10mm-15mm adaptors today for the coolant lines.

Success! The new spindle fits the block and filter/adapter nicely.
