Default Engine rebuild.

As many know I was upsetting a Ferrari driver recently and did some terminal damage to my engine.

Chris Barry helped me diagnose it and it became apparent that an engine rebuild was required.

Fortunately some time ago I picked up a short block for the pretty sum of $200.

See this thread

I had already stripped it down so it was just a matter of getting the block honed and the crank polished.

Here's the results:

It was from ebay but was a year or so ago.

Same deal though. An engine that had been replaced by Honda under warranty because it used too much oil.

From inspection it looks like it wasn't run in properly. The bottom ring was not bedded evenly.

Just a rebuild and a 3mm gasket.

When I pull the existing block I'll probably do a full job on it.

The problem is if you want to use other pistons (for lower compression) you can't get any that work with the FRM sleeves. So you have to re-sleeve. So your choice for decompression is a $400 gasket or a $4000 sleeve and piston job.

Same with a stroker. There are a few options about but they cost $4000-6000 and get you the less improvement than changing the max boost 1 pt on the AEM.

Hey Aus, sorry to hear, but I maybe able to help you. My engine has forged decompressed pistons, and I have not sleeved the block or added a decompression gasket. I have done over 50,000 ks and still going strong, if you like call Alex from Plazmaman, he can explain to you what is needed,

I am in New York JFK Airport at the moment, and headed to Tokyo and will be back in Sydney this weekend, so I won't be able to respond to any messages until then,

Cheers

Elias

Thanks Elias, I'll give Alex a call. I believe he has Steve's car in for a clutch job at present.
