Engine seems to pop into neutral under WOT
Hey,
A couple of times recently when pulling out into traffic in 2nd gear under WOT at about 7K rpm the engine seems to disengage from the trans (without me doing anything). I shift to 3rd and everything is okay and part throttle in 2nd is okay. Is the clutch slipping? Anyone else experienced this? The car has about 25k mi.

Gears popping out usually doesn't have anything to do with the clutch... When a clutch is slipping your rpms go up, but you don't speed up... or not as much as you should.
Sounds like you got yourself a tranny problem.

That is actually a TSB on the AP2 2004+ S2000's. I don't know if there is one for the AP1's. If you are under warranty I suggest you take it into the dealer. Unfortuntitly this is probably not going to be something you can fix yourself. Even so, outside of warranty the dealer might still help you because this is a somewhat documented issue (although not common).
Thanks for the replies, my S is an '03 and out of warranty. I'll take it to my local Honda shop and see what they say. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a syncro problem, as it crunches sometimes shifting into 2nd. If I need a new 2nd gear synchro what's a ballpark cost estimate?
Thanks In Advance,
Thanks In Advance,
I had the exact same problem yesterday. It's funny you posted this because I was going to. I was in second gear and right when the vtec was about to kick in, it got out of gear and sounded like I missed a shift. I think I'll be paying a visit to the Honda dealership also.
