Default engine start not right

Sorry if this has been talked about, search feature is not working for some reason.
When i start my car, it starts kind of hard and the engine and tranny seem to jump really hard. It also makes a metal grinding sound sometimes. I know this is not normal. Any idea what it is and how to fix. Thanks for any help.

start with the basics. is your car in gear or out of gear? clutch depressed or not? when did you last replace your tranny and diff fluids?

Out of gear, clutched pushed in all the way when I start. I changed my oil and diff. oils one week ago. I changed my transmission fluid about a year ago. Got new clutch put on and they chnged it. It had about 50,000 miles on it. Now it has 69,000.

sounds like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. have someone push the clutch pedal to the floor while the car is off, and see if you can still push the shift fork futher while the clutch pedal is completely depressed. if so, adjust the pushrod on the back of the clutch pedal to change its amount of throw.

Are you sure the tranny is jumping, or are you associating the sound with it.....

Not sure about the tranny...but,
Sound could be....
Timing Chain Tensioner.......

This sound will usually be present when car is cold, but if warm it will not make sound on startup.....

Have someone else start your car with your hood popped, sound should come from front of engin.... See the threads above....
