Default engine swap

I own a 2000 honda s2000 and i was wondering which year motors i can replace it with. I have been told a few different stories. Some say u have to stay with the 2000, and others say i can put a newer motor in? I know the 2000 has the 9000 rpm redline and the newer ones are 7200 or so but are they direct swaps? Should i stay with the 2000 with the 9000 redline or does it matter. Just thinkin the newer motors would have less miles and better condition. Also has anyone bought a JDM motor from these places which import them from Japan? Any info would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

00-03 engines are 2.0L and have 9k rpm redline
04-present are 2.2L and have 8400 rpm redline

04 and up have less redline but more torque and vice versa. Depends on what you value more.

most ap2 will give a 5-10 whp more on dyno for some reason, probably due to the increased displacment.

they are all great, but jus tmake sure you the whole pacakge with it(aka ecm, key), your 2000 will not have the electronic to run DBW

well sense this thread is already started. What about the JDM F20c. any better or more hp then the USDM F20c? I know it has 11.0:1 compression but what does that do for HP?

247hp for JDM F20C, to be exact. I'd never bother unless it was practically the same price.
