Thumbs up Engine Temperature Problems & A/C

Hello.

Duyring my drive back from New England this past weekend, I noticed a very strange issue with my car. Note that recently, I flushed my cooling system and replaced the old coolant with Honda Type-II Long Lasting coolant (blue stuff).

I was driving on I-84 at exactly 75mph, on cruise control.
This maintained the engine RPMs at approx. 4200 rpm.
The outside temp. was about 94-95 degress, and humid.
A/C was on, one bar below max fan speed.

So, I'd be chugging along on cruise control at 75...
My temperature gauge would then raise to 4 bars, and my A/C would stop pumping cold air.
After about 1-2 minutes, the temp guage would drop back down to 3 bars, and 30 seconds later the A/C would pump ice cold again.

This cycle repeated itself for about 40 minutes, until I got off the highway and slowed down. I also noticed my temp. guage raise to 4 bars maybe 10 other times (for a duration of 1min max) during my trip.

Please let me know if anyone knows what may be causing this. It seems to me the car is shutting the A/C system off to compensate for the increase in engine temperature. Once the engine temp. goes back down, it allows the A/C compressor to turn back on.

Air bubble in the coolant system most likely. Did you bleed it after the coolant flush?

How do I bleed the air out? I thought the bleed valve would do that for me, once the system cycled through, and the fans turned-on.

There are two coolant bleed locations on the S2000. One little valve on the block next to the intake manifold and one up on the firewall. I think they both need to be done after the car is up to temp and the fans come on. I'll need to check my service manual for the exact procedure but I don't have it in front of me right now. I can't remember if you're supposed to do one bleed valve before the other or not, I also can't remember if there are other steps involved.

As a side note, if you look around you can find an *ahem* .pdf copy of the service manual. Not that I condone this kind of stuff but it might help you get out of a bind just this once.

P.S. You did read this thread didn't you?

That is the exact DIY I followed when performing my coolant flush.
I'll take a look for a copy of the service manual.

Can you describe, in your words, the best way to "burp" the air out of the cooling system?

Got my hands on a Honda S2000 service manual.. The manual decribed in detail the air-bleeding process, and I plan on performing it tonight.

Checked my radiator first thing in the am, and it's full.

Glad you found a service manual. Let us know if this fixes your issues, I have a feeling it will as your symptoms are exactly those of an air bubble in the coolant.

I suppose it could also be thermostat related but I find it too convenient that the car only started doing this after the coolant flush. Also, when the thermostat gets stuck closed the temperature will often go much higher than 4 bars before dropping back down to normal.
