Default engine timing

Its a 2002 68,000 on it. Not in the condition i would hope it would be for that amount of miles. Car has misfires in 2,3,4 cylinders and will idle real rough. I tried new plugs so far but no difference. Just for the heck of it i set it at tdc to check the timing and found this.

with it at tdc (white mark) you can see the marks on the cam gears are not lined up exactly and the gear that lines up with the edge of the head is a little higher on the one side or does this look normal? thanks

if i set the gear with the lines that line up with the head the cams align right but then the arrow on the block doesnt line up with the white line on the crank pully

Last time I adjusted my valves I noticed the same thing, car runs fine though. It could be that your timing change is just geting old, and has stretched alittle. Most people dont realize that they should be changing the timing chain out every time they change out the timing chain tensioner.

yeh i thought that looked kinda odd that it was blue. I just got the car and im pretty sure the last owners beat the hell out of it. So im not just seeing things that does look like its off a tooth? Maybe I will get a new chain just to be safe. I dont have to pull the head to install a new chain right?

the service manual says you have to pull the head, but I think you can do it without removing it. You also have to pull the oil pan and timing chain cover, its a pita, that why it dosent get done often. If your going to be in that deep you might as well replace the guides, as they are relativley cheap. However I have to admit I reused mine on my last rebuild with no problems.
