engine timing
So i took everything apart and reset the chain so it used dark links on the chain for the timing. With everything perfectly lined up i cant get the cam idler gear to set flush with the head at tdc. Is a little closer then it was before. It justt bothers me that i cant get it set like it should be. Could the old chain be stretched? Still waiting on new parts just thought i would try to time it for fun .
I would find it hard to believe a chain stretched that much.
I would put a wood rod in the number one plug hole and set it to tdc. Make sure the crankshaft white mark is correct. If the outer ring of the crank pulley has shifted, the mark will never be right. The outer ring is mounted in rubber and I have seem it shift in non S2k cars.

It looks like a Full Blue = 293C / 560F
That has been pretty hot!
Lets hope it didn't happen in the engine as those temps are above the flashpoint of engine oil.

think this will be ok? its the closest i can get it. maybe the head was milled because i have the punch mark on the crank sprocket lined up with the darker chain link and the keyway is lined up with the arrow on the block. i checked tdc by puttting a extension in cylinder 1 and its dead on.
