EPS Issue while driving and turning - Billman
Hey guys,
Lately, while turning right, I seem to be having issues with my EPS not worknig. When the car is under 5-10 mph, it seems to be fine. Its when im going 30-40 doing a long winding turn and the eps seems to flutter off and the steering wheel feels hard/stuck. If I finish the turn or try to turn a bit more, it seems to regain power again. It used to happen when it was really cold while turning off the off-ramp. Lately, it seems to be happening in any weather condition while turning only right. Any ideas on what this can be? There are no error codes and the eps light doesnt come on when it seems to stop working. Daily driving, it's fine. Car has 154k miles. Has been happening for about 20k miles.
Allignment completed about 5k miles ago.
Thanks in advance

I heard resetting the EPS system will correct the issue. Has the car ever been on any kind of front end collision? or maybe spun out and hit a curb with the front wheels? my buddy is having the same issue and when he got 4 brand new tires, and now it's not as bad as before now, but it's still there. We will take it to a Honda shop and will have them reset the EPS and hopefully that fixes the issue. I'll report back.
when i was putting my shell together i ran into an eps issue. it seemed to be working turning to one side and not to the other. so decided to investigate. bare with me english is not my first language and i dont know what the specific parts are called.
where the steering column meets the steering rack you will see two or three (i forget) 12mm or 10mm bolts holding in piece and theres a electrical pug connected to it. i disconnected the steering column shaft or w/e at the join unplugged the plug and unscrewed the three bolts. when i took the piece the gear was all rusty and you could tell there was a decent amount of corrosion/water in/on it. luckily i had a spare broken rack and i took the same piece off and it looked fine so i lubed everything up and put it back in the rack that was already in the shell. it completely fixed my problem. i dont know if the corroded part could have been salvaged or not but i didn't bother trying to clean it just cause i had the spare.
fair warning this was a pita too do i had the car on jacks so i could under as well as over.
gl wish i could have been more specific or had pictures.

EDIT: I found the resetting procedure ---> https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/860...da-pgm-tester/
That should fix the problem. I'll do this also to my buddy's car once I get a chance.

Will try this out. The car did spin out once around 100k miles ago and hit a curb. They replaced both struts (ony the driver side hit the curb) and that was it. Dont remember having any issues after that until the car had over 100k miles on it. Ill check on resetting the eps to see if this corrects it. Its just weird it sometimes happens and other times the car is fine. Thanks for posting the instructions.
