Default EPS not working

Just got my car back after it had been sitting in the shop's yard for a very long time...we're taking years! In any case, got my car back and the EPS light was on and yeah, no power steering. I've read a few people having this problem but am seeing what the likeliness is that I need to replace the electronic module and what the expected cost is.

1) You can Google "S2000 Helms Manual". From the manual you can run through the checklist of which connections to check.

2) Do the paperclip trick to see which codes the EPS light blinks. There is a post on a thread that gives the info for each code. You can then try re-searching s2ki for that given code to see how people tried to solve the issue. Make sure you do the trick the correct way. I think it is 4 and 9, but I believe the modifry image that I used as a reference had the arrow pointed to the wrong #1 port. If you jump the wrong ports you will fry one of the 15a fuses in the engine bay.

3) You can try the EPS reset which is where you turn the wheel 45 degrees and back a few times while you are doing the paperclip trick.

4) In my AP1 the EPS module was located next to the battery. I pulled the battery out and checked the connections to the EPS module. Someone suggested while the battery was unhooked to try using the switch to put the soft top down to drain anything out of the system to see if that forces some kind of reset. Neither of these things did anything for me.

5) You can swap a "known" working EPS module. You will have to find another S2000 and take their's out... then you will have to do step #3 to do the "relearn". If this works it means that it is an issue with your EPS module and it needs to be replaced.

6) If this EPS module swap does not work you will have to possibly replace the steering rack. This might be when you want to take it to Honda. I believe an EPS unit is between $65-80 used (~$900 new). A used steering rack looks like it is $250-400.

Since I was unable to find someone in my area to do a EPS swap I ordered one on eBay and I'm hoping the used EPS is a working module. Most of the vendors will take the item back within 14-30 days and give a full refund. You will just be out the return shipping. If you order one make sure you are getting one for your model. I believe there are two versions that work for the AP1 and maybe two versions that work for the Ap2.

I have an AP1 and received a EPS module for an AP2 (39980-s2a-a04). I did the EPS reset and the module works, but when I turn the key it still shows the EPS light. The EPS light goes out after the car is started. Should I be concerned? This is what happened two months before my EPS went out fully. It would show before I started the car but be fine after the car started. Or is it related to having an AP2 EPS module?

I will contact the seller and try to get the EPS module for the AP1.

Well, all it took was a recalibration and I was on my way. I will never take power steering for granted again...especially in a parking lot!!
