Gernby, I believe the bearing was so bad that it couldn't be completely removed from the knuckle and had also caused damage to the hub so all three pieces, bearing hub and knuckle were replaced. Alas, that was the drivers side rear. This is the passenger rear hub that failed. Hmmm... which may partially explain why it happened on that side and not the drivers side.

 

vtecskunk, The motor setup is pretty basic. A Comptech SC with proflow TB, mugen header and Speed racing exhaust.

 

I wonder if the bearings were marginal on the passenger side, causing excessive heat and vibration that fatigued the hub.

 

Possibly, But when i had the driver side bearings etc replaced i also had them replace the passenger side bearings as well.

 

If the bearings and hubs on the S2000 are anything like the Hondas I've had in the past, changing just the bearings is much more difficult than just replacing the whole hub assembly. Do you have any idea if your passenger side hub was changed when the bearings were changed? The bearings are pressed into the hub, so the bearings must be pressed out and back in with a hydraulic press. Maybe the hub was damaged by the hydraulic press.

 

I suppose that the hub could have been damaged during the press, but I don't think I have any real way of finding out for sure. I did get the work done at a Honda dealer by a S2000 specific mechanic so chances are it was done right, though certainly no guarantee.
