Default Exhaust issues

Hi guys,

I have a MK1 escort fitted with an s2000 engine. I done the conversion myself and at the time just mated it to my standard 2" exhaust system. Just been for a rolling road to see if the exhaust is restricting things and it seems it is.

I only hit 195bhp at the fly.

Replacing the exhaust with a 2.5 or 2.75" exhaust is not a problem. However I have got some queries about the CEL and lambda sensors. What is the size of an OEM exhaust anyway? What size are the popular aftermarket ones?

I am running just the pre cat sensor on my car, as I didn't have another sensor to put into the exhaust. Will this cause an issue for the ECU to pull things back abit? Should I be running the post cat sensor too? If so do I run the CEL fix as spacer or not?

I cant read my ECU codes as I can't find a decent OBD2 pin out for an s2k to wire one into my car. So I'm stuck with an EML that I can't diagnose

195 wheel HP is not unusual for an early AP1 drive train.

195 sounds right..
stock exhaust is I believe 60mm into something less (dual tips)
most popular (for a gain) is 70mm

The dyno run was at the fly. I asked him for @wheels but he already had it set up for everyone's else's at the fly. It was a RR day thing.

I would be happy with 195bhp at the wheels.

Any info on the lambda sensors?

A healthy AP1 engine should easily show 195bhp at the wheels thru the Honda drive train. Wheel horsepower is all that can be measured without putting the engine on a stand so any "flywheel" reading taken off the wheel readings is a WAG with lots of assumptions.

AP1 header is a nominal 57mm and feeds nominal 60mm exhaust piping. Bigger exhaust piping is a constant discussion here. Just slapping on a 70mm system at the header seems to not achieve desired results due to exhaust pulsing, back pressure, and other things I don't understand. Torque suffers. And horsepower is merely a mathematical formula based on torque. Better results seem to happen with a smooth transition of exhaust diameters. There are some nice header sets available that will feed a 70+mm exhaust efficiently. Nice meaning expensive.
