Default Exhaust tips

My exhaust tips rattle and it sounds like my exhaust is blowing but Honda says its just the tips are loose. They said they couldnt sort it as the screws were too rusted to adjust. Any advice on removing them and finding out why they rattle? Do they come off easily? Its an 04 car. Thanks in advance.

Have a friend rev the motor while you stand behind the car. If the tips are indeed rattling, it should be obvious.

And don't do it when the motor is cold -- the exhaust is a bit more raspy then.

An exhaust rattle can be from loose bolts/nuts, loose heatshield, etc.

Its defo the tips but I just wondered how easy they come off. Honda just said they couldnt do it due to rusted screws or something like that.

The screw is what holds the tips in place. You may want to try spraying them with a penetrant (liquid wrench or similar) and see if you can get the screws to turn on your own. Make sure you do it when the exhaust is cold, I believe the spray is highly flammable.

If you can get the screws to turn, your choice to torque them down and see if the noise stops, or remove the tips.

Be VERY VERY careful, use lots and lots of liquid wrench as stated before.

I broke both of mine trying to remove, It's Probably an inevitability.

Thanks for the replies. If the screws shear off is it a case of a new exhaust or just drilling the screws out and putting new ones in?

Just drill the screws out, wasn't to hard, need some good bits.
