There are 3 variants of the F20C engines.

F20C Japan (JDM)
F20C1 US
F20C2 Euro

From my little knowledge only the JDM has different internals, and that

Remember, US octane is not the same as Euro or Japanese ratings. RON vs (MON+RON)/2 that is used in the US.

Well said. IIRC local fuel is (85+95) /2 = 90.

European countries have 95 and 98 fuel. I do not know if its calculated the same (MON+RON)/2

IIRC, Euro just uses RON, by standard. Could be different among countries or regions though.

its not the pistons changing the CR. The JDM head gasket is thinner.

Could be too. I do not have any verification what makes the JDM 11.7CR.
It would have to be a very thin gasket to increase CR by 0.7.
