I'll have to find it, but on a Best Motoring where the new to Japan F22 was compared to the F20, they were saying that the ap1 tranny would be a better fit for the F22 so it could stay in it's power band longer...their complaint was they had to shift too soon.

I dunno...the ap2s I've driven seemed to be geared ok. But an ap1 tranny on a turbo'd F22 would make a lot of since to help keep the turbo spooled for the greatest amount of time possible.

best combo in my opinion. I also think the ap1 will be better off with the ap2 trans.

f22 with ap1 trans and gears...

i have a turbo s2k with a 2.2L and a ap1 tranny. When i have raced my friends who have turbo s2k's with ap2 trannys they are shifting alot more than i am! A few days ago i merged onto the highway and kept the car in third gear. I went from about 30 to 80 in one gear... very quickly and seemlessly I always wanted an ap2 tranny, but at the power i am making it seems easier to keep the power down with taller gearing! Especially down low!

Why not just get the AP2 tranny with it? If I had a choice, I'd go with the AP2 for the final gear (in the tranny not the diff), which makes the gears shorter (yes your shift more) but the 6th gear is set so that the tranny cruises at a lower RPM while in 6th. Saving you gas, which is why a lot of people with AP1 motors go with AP2 trannys. Everyone has their own setup, just wondering why you dont go with the whole AP2 setup?

Off topic, how about an AP-2 tranny and 3.90 gears in an AP-1. First thru 4th are about the same as the AP-1 and then you have more overdrive too.

That said and back on topic, the combo will work fine. IMHO, the AP-1 ECU and shifting at 8500 rpm along with the AP-2 torque would be a nice setup with the AP-1 tranny.

as a side note about you having the "4.77's in your ap1 tranny" tehy are in the rear diff so that makes no difference. they are still gonna be there

I think he meant the carbonetic 4.57 which *is* in the transmission.
