Failed CA smog - LOL :(

Not through a private seller, this is something that should be negotiated before hand.

also to the OP, check spark plugs as well. If the smog tech sees a CEL that's an auto fail.

It actually didn't smell bad at all. Several people have been in my car - no complaints. And I attributed the deeper tone to the CR exhaust (he swapped it).

In California a title transfer must be accompanied with a smog check that is newer than 3 months. Sorry, but only fools don't demand this check to be done by the seller.

Any CEL is also an automatic SMOG fail.

No cat is also automatic fail. I'm surprised the tester even tested it with no cat.
