Default Failed emissions!

I just got my car back on the road after being parked for over 7 months. I needed to get emissions test done and I failed twice in one day.

I drive a MY00 with only 20,400 miles. I have never had any problems with my car related to the engine or emissions.

I had only filled up 4 gallons of fresh gas (about 2 gallons already in my tank from last summer), and driven about 15-20 miles before getting the test done. The test showed that my carbon monoxide readings were 8.9 where the minimum was supposed to be 6.1.

I was told that I had bad gas in my tank and carbon build up in my engine. I think filled up my tank with fresh 94 octane gas and ran it up and down the highway for about another 30-40 miles, constantly redlining 2nd gear.

I went back to get retested and I failed again! This time the reading showed up at 7.8 instead of 8.9.

How long would it take for the carbon to breakdown? What are the regular carbon monoxide readings for a s2000?

I was only allowed to receive 3 month insurance since I failed and I'm planning to get retested in a couple of months. THIS SUCKS!

Is the car completely stock? Nothing modded at all? If so, I would just run out the rest of that tank and it really should pass. The S2 is rated an ULEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) so you should pass with flying colors. I have a full race built motor and a turbo and I still pass with ease! Let us know how you make out.

You have old gas in your tank, simple as that. Run the tank almost empty, dump a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner in, and top the tank off. The S2000 is LEV rated, not ULEV.
